An average Nigerian university is said to offer more than 65 courses but there are courses which are very competitive in the sense that there are more people vying for that course. The chances of getting admission easily into the university becomes very slim if one choosed those courses that is why you should consider the competitiveness of the course you want to study in the university.

Courses competitiveness according to JAMB 2018 statistics

1. Biochemistry.
2. Computer science.
3. Electrical/Electronic engineering.
4. Political science.
5. Nursing.
6. Dentistry and dental surgery.
7. Agriculture.
8. Petrochemical engineering.
9. Law.
10. Medicine and surgery.

A lot of candidate prefer to choose this course because they think they can cross over to medicine later in school. Other chose it because their jobs abound.

Candidate choose this course because they believe that Nigerian is gradually becoming computerized and there are a lot of opportunities for the course.

Everybody want to become an engineer one way or the other . As the world is moving fast, so as technology. A lot of opportunity are in engineering, and particularly Elecrical electronics.

Lately, there have been rise in the cut off mark of any agriculture related courses which means that the number of students applying for these courses are increasing year after year.

Everybody wants to work in CHEVRON, NNPC and so on, why? Maybe because of the huge salary and allowances. As a result of this, high number of students apply for this course.

Most female candidates go for nursing in their university, like 60% of them. Nursing is a good course in Nigeria. You don’t have to look for job as qualified nurses are regularly needed

Due to the limited slot to this course in universities, There is high competition . OAU admit only 25 student in this course, UI admit only 40 while some other school admit 10 candidate. There are really no much space for much candidates and this creates competitiveness.

2. LAW

90% of art students apply for this course year after year. Maybe because of the respect they earn from people or for the juicy allowances in it.
