The story of President Buhari's son accident while riding
is no more news but there's a trend on social media which is gaining much popularity probably more than the first. That is the assumption that Yusuf Buhari is Dead!
This alarming news of Yusuf Buhari death caused lots of half-truths and fallacies in the Internet.
Some have already reached the extent of innocently expressing compassion for the grief to President Buhari. There is a need to differentiate between truth and lies especially ones online.
Probably, those enacting and propagating these lies are the haters of the President and his cabinet plus his and their families.
Even at school, the President isn't popular: There was a section in the library meant for historical booklets. There, the photos frames of former presidents like Dr. Goodluck Jonathan,Azikiwe and others were displayed.
So curious were my mates that they asked why a frame was not fitted with president Buhari's face.
When they were told that there are photos of former presidents, they all in one accord voiced that one with Buhari's frame should be made ready to be there soon. They needed his reign to end soon. It was hillarious how students hated their president such.
To the subject matter, recall that Yusuf Buhari had a motorcycle accident on December 26 2017. It was reported that the president's son had been flown to Germany for treatment. Before that, he was in a Nigerian Hospital.
The transportation could not be carried out immediately since Buhari Jr. suffered fairly severe brain damage. However, with Yusuf, his mother and sister, the personal doctor of the first lady and several other assistants, they traveled to Germany in January this year.
After then, no reports on the health condition of the president's son was reported.
This silence caused anxiety and guesses about Yusuf's death. And as humans are, when we do not know something, we tend to assume the worst has happened. As a result ,the rumor was so strong. However, Lauretta Onochie, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari clarified the situation. She urged people to ignore these rumors and called them fake claiming in fact that Yusuf is still among the living.
"The news making the rounds regarding Yusuf Buhari, son of Pres. Buhari & Aisha Buhari, is Fake. He is very alive, to their shame."
Yusuf is the only son among Buhari's children and as can be percieved he's a very valuable asset to the president.
