Many people have been looking for a way to upgrade their MTN sim to fourth generation Network (4G) to be able to enjoy fast download, uploads and online streaming like never before.

In this post, I will tell you the most important things you need to know about MTN 4G LTE Network and how you can enjoy it on your phone because the question might not be how to upgrade your MTN SIM to 4G LTE network but what you need is the right smartphone and USIM + 4G coverage.

What you Need to enjoy MTN 4G Network

Just like I said earlier, you might not need to upgrade your Sim for 4G but making sure you have a good 4G compatible device and USIM cards.

Am sure you noticed when I said USIM instead of just SIM but both of them are different while USIM is more superior to normal SIM but don't worry I will explain better below.

Meaning of SIM/USIM?

SIM is an abbreviation representing Subscriber Identity Module used to communicate on GSM networks.

USIM simply represents UMTS Subscriber Identify Module which is an application for UMTS cellphones that provides the same features as the SIM card.

What is UMTS?

To better understand the full meaning of USIM which I described as UMTS Subscriber Identify Module, it will be important to equally know what UMTS represents.

UMTS, on the other hand, represents Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service, UMTS is basically a version of 3G while LTE is based on the 4G network and is based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication standard.

How do Upgrade to MTN 4G LTE Network

To get everything ready you need to have a 4G enabled device such as smartphones, tablets and modems then a USIM card, you might be using USIM but without a compatible 4G device it will not work but to be sure whether you have the right Sim Card, simply text 4G to 131 from your mobile device. You will receive an SMS telling you if your SIM or device is 4G/LTE ready.

After receiving a response from MTN regarding compatibility you will need to act based on their recommendations which will surely be either buying a 4G enabled device or swapping your SIM with USIM Cards, they will also notify you if you have the right device and USIM.

What about MTN 4G data Plans?

I have seen many people asking and searching for MTN 4G data plans but the truth is that MTN doesn't offer any special data plans for 4G users but one data plan for all, whether you are using Edge, GPRS, 3G or 4G MTN gives you the same data subscription plan.
