Established in 1952, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is an examination board that conducts the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).


The council has contributed to education in Anglophonic countries of West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia), with the number of examinations they have coordinated, and certificates they have issued.



They aim to reduce significantly the challenges confronting Education in the different countries they operate. According to this board of experts, they are poised on innovating education in light of technological advancement.


Moving forward with technological advancement, the west african examination council introduced a grading system for their WASSCE examination. The grading system is well defined and easy to decode.


What are WAEC grading system? What are their grades?  How to calculate wassce grades? What are the WAEC grade conversion?

WAEC Grade Definition - All in percentages:


₹ A1 Excellent 75% – 100%
₹ B2 Very good 70% – 74%
₹ B3 Good 65%- 69%
₹ C4 Credit 60% – 64%
₹ C5 Credit 55% – 59%
₹ C6 Credit 50% – 54% D7
₹ Pass 45% – 49%
₹ E8 Pass 40% – 45%
₹ F9 Failure 0% – 44%
