What it takes to become a successful model

To achieve your dream and become who you want to be in modeling career you need to learn how things work in modeling and what it takes to be the best in the area of your expertise, so below are the things you must learn.

Understand and meet the requirements of your desired modeling category

Since there are many niches in modeling career you should be aware that every modeling category has its own unique requirements. For instance, a petite model should not be more than a size 6. A child model needs to be under the age of 13. Flat tummy and a sexy well-toned body are required of a lingerie model.

A runway model doesn’t necessarily need a fine face but should meet the height requirement of not less than 5’8″ for females and 5’11” for males. Nonetheless, the taller you are, the more advantage you have.

Know the industry and get used to the system

Modeling might not work or be as the average Monday-to-Friday/9-to-5 job, so you could be called up for work at any day and time. Study the industry, meet people who are into modeling, ask questions, get information and be ready to be up and about, going for auditions, castings and photo shoots.

Be ready to welcome competitions

Competition is inevitable when it comes to modeling and you should not be afraid of competitions because it only makes you stronger and a step further towards your goals, it doesn't matter if you look so good or not because there’s more to the modeling business than physical looks.

Get prepared to embrace the lifestyle

Most upcoming models do not have a schedule to follow, they just go with the flow. You need to get used to the life of a model; be ready to travel on a short notice, change your hairstyle as often as the looks demand, slide into any outfit without caring who would see your undies, choke up with too much work at a time and be idle for another period, have unstable income, etc. Your life is basically now the definition of ‘freestyle.’

Get more experience attending events

Acquiring more experience might be the only difference between you and your competitors because sometimes it's all about what you know and what you can do that your competitors don't and the best way to acquire more knowledge is to attend some modeling events and learn from them.

To beat your competitor you must first understand their strength and then improve to show them you are more talented and unique than them.
