I promote Jumia product and services just like many other Nigerian bloggers but recently I noticed that Jumia has started playing what I call a WIN, WIN game that will end up giving them positive results and equally reduce the amount they pay out to their affiliate partners.
Before the 2017 Black Friday promo, Jumia made some changes including reducing their commision rate claiming that it was the only way to make the black Friday festival a success but after the promo the commision rate or models as they call it remains the same which shows that Black Friday was an excuse to reduce their commision rate.
Why I predict lesser earning n this year's Black Friday promo
Generally, Jumia affiliate conversion rate has decreased a lot these days that sales don't come easily without sending lots of targeted traffic to them but each Jumia yearly black Friday promo is a great time for more sales and more earnings but the earning might be lesser than what it used to be and I will tell you why.
Jumia Aggressively building an email list
I understand that every e-commerce website build an email list that enables them to reach their potential customers anytime and as well inform them of any latest offers on their product and services but what I still don't understand is why Jumia always ask their affiliate partners to start promoting their black Friday promo or whatever promo they are doing only to ask the new visitors to join their mail list.
I might be wrong but what I don't know is how an affiliate can earn commision when they sent visitors to jumia and they subscribed to newsletter, then when jumia ping them with offers and the person decides to buy, how then will the referrer earn commission since in actually sense the new referrer is the newsletter jumia sent to the subscriber but who sent the subscriber to Jumia was the Blogger/webmaster.
Jumia turning everything to App only
Jumia now tries to force people to download their app and shop through their app which is a big loss to their affiliate partners, to make things worst all attractive offers is being tagged app only which means that such offer is only available when you have Jumia mobile app installed on your phone.
If every Jumia customers installs and use their app to shop then I wonder how affiliate marketers will make money since they always have a better offer when using their app.Conclusion
I might be wrong or maybe I don't know how it works but am always ready to share my opinion and thought, if you ask me to explain further I will tell you that when you send visitors to Jumia and they subscribed to their newsletter or download their app then you somehow lose while jumia wins.
