  • If you have the power to make someone happy, do it. The world needs more of that.
Without the services of team captain, John Obi Mikel, Nigeria beat Guinea 1-0 to become the first team to qualify for the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The super eagles now have maximum six points from two games after a 1-0 win over Burundi in their first match on Saturday.

The three-time winners were pushed towards the second segment of the match before eventually getting the winner in the 73rd minute when Moses Simon's right-wing corner was headed in at the near post by Kenneth Omeruo.

Guinea on the other side led by champions league winner, Naby Kieta proved a opposition to the eagles but eventually couldn't stop Omuero's header in the 73'rd minute.

Naby Keita in the match made his first start for club/country since 1 May, after he picked up a groin injury in the Reds' 3-0 loss to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Midfielder was substituted in the 71'st minutes after frequents falls from challenges.

One of the best chances of the encounter was when Arsenal FC's Alex Iwobi just outside the penalty area produced a curled effort but Guinea goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone countered with a spectacular one-handed save to push it over the bar.

The result means Guinea have just one point from their two games while Nigeria has six enabling them qualification for the next round. Guinea would need to win their last group game to register any hope of qualifying to the next round.

The Nigerian side included Brighton defender Leon Balogun, Stoke midfielder Peter Etebo, Leicester midfielder Wilfried Ndidi and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi.

The other two nations in Group B, Madagascar and Burundi, play on Thursday, before Burundi take on Guinea and Madagascar face Nigeria in the final round of group games on Sunday.
