The church literally is that place where Christian religious activities are performed via consecration of the whole members making up the body.

Preference is given to the supremacy of a super-being referred to as God which all worshippers are indirectly in subjection to.

If one goes by that definition, then Nigeria accords herself few Churches, which in reality isn't so.

We might take it in a circumstantial way to accommodate more worship places: A church is the gathering of people who profess to believe in the Christian religion.

Viewed from this perspective, it is obviously true to say Nigeria has thousands of churches. If the numbers alone leave you in awe, then, what about the fact that it's actually rising exponentially?

If this is true, which of the numerous religious places is legitimate?

Many do believe that the Nigerian Christians are the most confusing ones on earth, a haven to make decisions from different alternatives.

To be on the safer side as a Christian, why not take a look at my dispassionate nitty-gritty of finding a perfect church. In going through this, I would maintain a 'no church' namings policy, so expect to be left speculating of the 'real church 'at the end.

The church which has now grown deviating tentacles started in Jerusalem on Pentecost, so says Acts 2. However, people do have some generalized universal perception of what the 'church' actually is. The Bible isn't a conflicting page of statements and in Eph. 4:4 says there is only one church. This unified body was purchased with His blood (Acts 20:28).

The Bible also cleared all doubt in col. 1:18, Jesus is the head and founder of the church.

It is interesting to note that the church as envisaged by the new testament is a replacement to the commands of the Jews, and as such doctrines aren't those for the jews of old. The new laws lettered in the new testament section of the Bible made the Jewish laws intermediated by Moses outdated and old.

Christians are to follow the principles of the new mediator, Jesus and it's documented nowhere but in the new testament of the Bible. Synagogues and temples were for Judaism, the church was for Christianity - that seems sensible then?

There's this little issue of women's participation in the church. Although men and women are equal in God's view, they are provided with different roles in His church.

Designed by God, women are not permitted to assume positions of church leadership (I Cor. 14:34, I Tim. 2:12). Many crafty deviations are continually being blasphemed by many 'religious leader', this calling for an increased need to understand the Church, Bible, and Christianity at large.

How to identify a 'good church'

Warmth Christian fellowship:

One of the great humanly deeds of Jesus was his good fellowship with fellow humans and strangers. He instituted the fellowship down from the disciples to the church.

Hebrews 10:24 says, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Then 1 Peter 4:10 strengthens it thus: Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

A true church should get each member basking in the deep feeling of true fellowship.

Extensive Evangelism

One of the greatest preference of Jesus in his works was Evangelism. The true church must constitute evangelism strategies in its activities.

Jesus acknowledged preaching from door-to-door than his miraculous deeds, he even called it 'the great commission'. 'Salvation of the lost' pursuance is the main identification tag of a true church.

Sound and expositional teachings from the Bible

A genuine church that gives the spiritual growth of its members preference would likely indulge in concurrent teachings of the scriptures. While trying to broaden the biblical horizons of the members, it is must be backed up by clear biblical passages.

The doctrine of christ

The church that is owned by Jesus Christ should follow the prescribed way the owner of the church(Jesus) laid down. No man is instructed to circumvent the Christian doctrine in any form.

Finally, the one true church is still in existence(in case you ever doubt such). Remember Jesus word to Peter that No wiles of the Devil can overcome His church?
