Going to school in Nigeria has become non-optional for most families. This is due to the affordable school fees offered by several tertiary institutions. Although most universities in the country are considered expensive, there are some which are quite affordable to majority of the populace.



It is important to be well-informed about the fees of your prospective institution of choice before penning that in your JAMB form. It is pertinent to note here also
 that many youths abstain from tertiary institution due to the costs associated with it. As such the need for a list of cheap universites in the country. The list outlines the average tuition fees paid in these respective universities, as some school present different fees for different faculties.




To generate a fair list, for schools with differing fees per faculty, an average fee is put into comparison. They are listed in no particular order:

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta





The federal university of agriculture, Abeokuta is one of the three agricultural university in Nigeria, and undoubtedly the best among them. Aside being a prominent agricultural university, the institution is one of the best university in the country.



The fees paid by students ranges from N32,000 to 42,000 for selected high priority courses. And aside agricultural courses, the university offers some engineering and technology courses.



Nasarawa State University (NSU)






The Nasarawa state University located in Keffi is considered one of the best in northern Nigeria. It however doesn't rank elated when compared with most universities in the country but undoubtedly boasts of quality facility.



NSU tuition fees range from N26,000 to N100,000 with non-indigene paying more than indigenes.




Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)





The Ahmadu Belo University, Zaria is a reputable university in Nigeria. It boasts of notable alumni like late president Musa Yaradua; former EFFC boss, Nuhu ribadu, Dino maleye, etc.



Considered one of the best university in northern Nigeria and in general Nigeria, ABU's School fee ranges from N18,000 to N44,000. The school has quality facility and dozens of faculties to sooth your requirement.




Taraba State University (TASU)





Taraba State University is undoubtedly one of the most cheapest university in Nigeria. Indigenes pay just N25,000 tuition fee, while non indigenes pay N35,000.



The state-owned university joins the list of cheap northern universities with attractive facilities. Established in 2008, the university purposes to promote economic development in the country, especially in the northern part of the country.




University of Ibadan (UI)





Most ranking platform portray the university of Ibadan as the best in the country presently. Being the oldest degree-awarding tertiary institution in the country, the university has international applauds.


University of Ibadan in September 2016 became the first Nigerian university to make the top 1000 in Times Higher Education rankings. It is blessed with prominent alumni.




Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU)






Akwa Ibom State University is the cheapest state University in southern Nigeria. Established in 2010, AKSU offers degrees in several courses.



The university has two campuses — the main campus at Ikot Akpaden, and the Obio Akpa campus. The school fees of Akwa Ibom State University is N53,000 for indigenes, while non-indigenes pay N73,000.




Federal University Of Agriculture (FUA)




Federal university of Agriculture, Markurdi is another cheap agricultural university in the list. Established in 1988 by the federal government, the average school fees paid in the institution is N32,000.

University of Calabar (UNICAL)





The university of Calabar was established in 1975 after being split from being a campus to the University of Nigeria.


The University, aside being the 8th oldest in the country was one of the leading Nigerian Universities to automate students’ registration processes through an online portal.



Due to the ills encountered by the students at a time which coincided with the suffering experienced by Nigerians in Malabo(Equatorial Guinea), the male students are referred to as Malabites, while the female students are called Malabresses. The male hostel is called Malabo. The school fees offered at UNICAL averages N35,000.





Delta State University (DELSU)





Delta State University has its main campus in Abraka, Delta State while there are other campuses at Anwai, Asaba, and Oleh.


With a student population of 36,000, there are several programs and courses offered by the institution. The average school fees paid by DELSU students is N64,000. Non indigenes might however fmkfkj pay up to N85,000.




University of Abuja (UNIABUJA)




Established in 1st March, 1988, UNIABUJA ranks 24 in the NUC university ranking recently released. The institution has several programs of study to choose from. There are:
