A virus that has forced the entire world and businesses into a standstill situation has become a perfect time and moment for Nigerians to pocket more money. The fear of total lockdown in Nigeria has skyrocketed the price of food items and other commodities up to 100% including sacket water popularly known as "Pure water". A set of pure water that usually costs N1,000 for 11 or 12 bags is now going for 9 bags, N1,2,00 mostly in Onitsha and Asaba Delta state.

The question now is why is the price of things going up, it might be possible that high demand pushed the price or maybe something else that I don't know because even without the demand Nigerians likes making something out of nothing, it doesn't matter if someone is dying or not, it must be a business time for someone somewhere.

Opportunity to make more money

The price of a nose mask and sanitizers has tripled since the coronavirus outbreak, the price of everything in Nigerian has been affected by the coronavirus even things that have nothing to to do with coronavirus

While someone somewhere around the world is struggling to survive Nigerians are busy making more money for themselves. can you imaging that paint of garri has gone from N350 to N1500 in some places and it has become scarce that you can't even see garri to buy when you have the money?. According to my research, the scarcity of garri is caused by the rumor that Nigeria is going into total lockdown in a few days and people a trying to stock enough food to eat if they eventually had to stay at home for weeks.

The question now is, what helps those who can't even afford a paint of garri at the rate of N500 talk more of paying N1200 - N1500, what will be the faith of poor masses or do you suggest that the Nigerian government should support every individual financially?

Well, I don't see that happening at least not in Nigeria that the rich don't care about the poor instead they will even try to make extra money from the ugly situation but guess what?, I across a post on Facebook proposing that Federal Government should pay every individual with valid BVN N250,000 each.

According to the Facebook poster, he wrote:
Quote
#COVID19 The Nigerian Government can budget #150 billion Naria for 500 Legislators. But don't have any package for its citizens sitting at home.  what a country

The calculation above is wrong, 100 billion from the Federal Government cannot give 40 million people N250,000 each but N2,500 but I laughed when I saw the post on Facebook because even the FG is still looking for a way to make money especially now that the oil price has crashed.

Maybe the poster needs to be reminded that his paying 7.5% VAT on every call and text messages he sent and the same apply to the data subscription and yet someone is dreaming of receiving money from Federal Government?. Nothing is impossible who knows.

Stay Safe while making money

The World Health Organisation has provided a comprehensive guide on your can stay safe and as well stop the spread of coronavirus. you can watch this video below are follow the instructions.

Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
