The Nigerian Telecommunication giant MTN recently offered its subscribers up to 300 free SMS to stay connected to their love ones. The free 300 SMS lasts for 30 days and each MTN subscribers is allowed to send up to 10 free SMS per day for the next 30 days.
I first confirmed the free SMS from MTN when I sent a message to one of my friends today and saw a message that shows that MTN has given me free 300 SMS that will last for 30 days. As I said earlier the 300 free messages are divided into 30 days and you will be allowed to send 10 free SMS per day.
After noticing that I have been given free SMS, this message follows immediately after some minutes:
Stay CONNECTED with loved ones WITHOUT using your CREDIT! Enjoy FREE 300 SMS for one month (10 SMS/day) to ALL NETWORKS. Dial *559*44# for balance. #StaySafe
How to get free 300 SMS from MTN
There is no special code to dial to enjoy this free 300 SMS from MTN Nigeria but guess the offer is for every MTN subscriber and is to help you stay connected to your love once during the lockdown period caused by the coronavirus
that has shaken the entire world. Moreover, you might not sure that you have free SMS from MTN until you try sending an SMS to someone especially when you have any amount less than #4 on your phone.
How to check your free SMS balance
I tried using different MTN Promo codes numbers
to check the balance but couldn't and even the number provided to be used when checking the free SMS balance is not working *559*44#
, the error message I got is that I don't have any bundle balance. The best to check if you have free SMS is when you send a message and check your balance to see that your money is not deducted.Free data would have been better
Thanks to MTN Nigerian for the free 10 SMS daily for the next 30 days but offering free data would have been better than free SMS. With free data people can stay connected on the internet read and watch the news on their smartphones, at least the majority of Nigerians now use smartphones and I believe MTN subscribers will be happier to have free data than the SMS.
