Step 2: Find Your Camera IP Address

Step 5: Setup Port Forwarding / Network Setup


What makes accessing your camera remotely over the Internet possible is port forwarding. Port forwarding is used by computers on the Internet to connect to a specific device on your internal network. Every port on your router is like a special pipe made for a specific kind of traffic. For that reason, the port forwarding setup is needed.

When setting up port forwarding, you need to login to your camera’s admin interface. Afterward, you need to go to the network settings area to confirm what port has been assigned to your camera to know the port to forward your router. When locating the port forwarding options, log in to your router. Although some routers give this option different names, it still serves the same functions. Some names routers can be given are Port Forwarding, Port Triggering, Applications & Gaming, or Port Range Forwarding.

After accessing the option, type into the box provided the port number you want to forward, alongside your static IP address, and enable the status. Then, ensure that a firewall program does not block the port you’re forwarding.

Step 6 : Test Access


Testing your configuration is the final step to take. This can be done by connecting to a web browser, or your mobile phone, provided it’s not the same network you connected your camera. Then, enter your connection’s URL address, which combines your WAN IP address and the HTTP or camera port.

Some camera manufacturers create an App and client for easy access to make remote viewing easier. Downloading the manufacturer’s App and Client is the first step. There are no compatibility issues since the camera manufacturer builds these apps. This app uses P2P Technology that gives users the chance to use the Internet remotely for accessing the security camera.

There is a need to enter your unique ID number (UID) to add the camera device once the app is launched. Then, to view your IP camera over the Internet at any location, click on your camera name on the app or client tab. One of the advantages of this app is that accessing your security camera through more than one device is possible.
