However, most times, this Shortcode doesn't work. You might get an error stating that this service is temporarily unavailable. If that happens when you move to the next step immediately, nothing will prevent you from transferring data to family and friends.

How to transfer data on MTN using MyMTN mobile app

My favorite method of sharing my Man data with family and friends is through my mobile app. If you are using an Android phone and have not downloaded the MTN app, you are missing a lot. MyMTN mobile app does not only help you to transfer data on MTN but as well help you to do other things like:

You can link your NIN and check the status quickly.
Check your data balance and bonuses with ease.
Access to MTN bonus airtime and data offers
You can enable and disable MTN services through the app
Share Airtime and data MB after and lots more.

Now, to transfer data from your MTN Sim to another MTN user, whether to your other MTN sim or friends and family, you have to follow this instruction.

MTN data gifting is a platform designed to enable its subscribers to gift data to other MTN users. You can give data from your data plans or buy it for family and friends directly using this method.

To get started, dial the popular MTN shortcode, which is *131#, from the option provided.

Select 7 (Gift Data)
Select 1 ( Transfer from data balance)

From here, you will be asked to provide the phone number of the person you are transferring the data to, enter the recipient number, and then click ok to proceed to another page where you will enter the amount of MB that you wish to transfer.

Dial *131# > Select 7 - Gift Data > Select 1 - Transfer from your data balance.

How to request data from family and friends

We have been discussing how to transfer data on MTN but what if you don't have data and need a friend to help you out with little data to update things online.

Well, the MTN data gifting is designed to allow MTN subscribers to share data among themselves. You can transfer data and as well request data from any family and friends using the MTN network.

To request data from someone, dial *131*

Select 7 (Gift Data)
Select 3 (Request data from a friend)
Enter your friend's number and click send.

If you got it correctly, then your friend will receive a notification of your data request. However, it's left for your friends to honor your request or ignore it.
