NCDC advises that there is no cure for monkeypox.

The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a statement stating that there is no therapy for monkeypox. Additionally, the center recommended Nigerians to take preventative steps.

In a recent interview, Nigerian health minister Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora reassured citizens that the National Center for Illness Control and Prevention (NCDC) is doing all in its power to prevent the further spread of the disease throughout the country.

Viruses that cause monkeypox are found in the Orthopoxvirus genus of the family Poxviridae, according to reports.

Some European nations have been infected with the illness, which is endemic to countries in West and Central Africa, according to the WHO.

Countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Portugal, Spain, Israel, Lebanon, and Canada are reporting instances, despite the fact that 15 of the 46 suspected cases reported by the NCDC have been verified.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted that the monkeypox epidemic was detected in nations where the illness was not previously known to be prevalent.

However, a report on the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCDC) website said that there are no particular treatment options for monkeypox.

Despite promising in-vitro and animal findings, there are currently no approved therapies for monkeypox infection, according to the notice that appeared on the screen.

There are a number of ways to avoid getting monkeypox virus infection, including avoiding sick or dead animals in areas where the disease has been reported, avoiding contact with infected material, thoroughly cooking animals who have come into contact with an infected one, and paying attention to the symptoms of monkeypox infection.

"The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is looking into it." The center is doing all it can in terms of monitoring, reaction, and mitigation.

"The monkeypox is indigenous to Nigeria, much like Lassa virus," the minister added. "However, we have our agencies like the NCDC when it comes to reaction, and I can guarantee you that they are absolutely on it."

Prof Marycelin Baba, a virologist at the University of Maiduguri, also backed with NCDC's allegations in a separate interview with The PUNCH, but cautioned.

"Monkeypox is a mutation from smallpox," Baba said. Smallpox at the time had no therapy. When the smallpox vaccine was released, it was the only time there was a breakthrough. This implies that if you were fortunate enough to get vaccinated against smallpox during your childhood, you should be quite protected.

"Unfortunately, the majority of individuals were not born during the smallpox outbreak that ravaged the planet. Smallpox was long since abolished.

"In Nigeria, for example, one of our difficulties is a lack of suitable diagnostic tools for viral illnesses." How do you intend to address the issue if you can't even identify it? I'm not sure whether smallpox vaccinations are still available around the globe, but for the time being, vaccine is the only option. I'm sorry, but we won't be able to go anyplace without immunizations."
