Despite a 1.54 percent increase in the overall number of telco customers, 9mobile was the only one of the top four telecom providers to have its subscriber base decline due to the industry's data war.

There were 107,617 users that discontinued utilizing 9mobile's data service in the month of April according to market data received from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Total 9mobile data users fell to 5,44 million in the month under review, compared to 5,55 million members utilizing the network's data plan. In April, MTN Nigeria, Airtel, and Glo gained more than 2 million customers, making up half of this total.

It is a setback to 9mobile's revenue growth for the second quarter (Q1) of 2022 since the business will draw profits from a smaller base of customers than in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021.

Airtel has surpassed Glo in terms of the number of subscribers using the most data

When just 331,360 people signed up for the data service of Wale Adenuga-owned business Globacom, which had 39.56 million internet subscribers in March, Globacom's internet customers surpassed Airtel Nigeria's 39.89 million, exceeding the March number of 39.56 million bases.

918,191 new data platform customers helped Airtel Africa overtake Globacom in the race to catch up to MTN Nigeria's internet subscriber base, which now stands at 40.29 million (up from 39.37 million at the start).

After adding 1.10 million new customers in the first 30 days of April, MTN's internet user base grew to 61.81 million, a significant increase over the 60.70 million it had at the end of the previous month.

It was the yellow network that brought in the newest data users in April, accounting for 2.24 million of the total. There were 147.44 million data customers as of the end of September, up from the previous month's 145.20 million.
