A British man lost his hard drive with 8,000 bitcoins

The search for an 8-terabyte hard disk containing 8,000 bitcoins has been ongoing since 2013, and a British citizen has already developed an $11 million business plan to recover it.

If you're looking for someone to blame for the year's failure, go no further than James Howells of the UK. And it's all because of the heartbreaking tale of bitcoins going missing.

What's going on?

An error by James in 2013 resulted in the unintended loss of an estimated 8,000 bitcoins in the trash. When it came to disposing of it, it was sent to the Howells Landfill near Newport, Wales. At the time of writing, the value of those bitcoins is around $176 million. So it's understandable that the man hasn't given up and is still searching for the hard disk.

With the help of experts, two investors and an $11 million business plan, James could retrieve the hard drive and all of its bitcoins.

Among the resources included in this strategy are two Boston Dynamics Spot robot dogs. It's important to note that one of these robots costs $75,000 to buy. The man says robots will be employed for security as moving surveillance cameras and to sweep the ground in search of missing hard drives. Two canines will be needed for this project, one to patrol and the other to charge the battery while the job is underway.

Even though the robots haven't been acquired yet, Howells has given them names. After Satoshi Nakamoto (a pseudonym for the person or group responsible for the creation of Bitcoin) and Hal Finney (the first person to receive a bitcoin payment) were dubbed Satoshi and Hal.

Because local officials restrict his access to the waste, the Briton has an issue he can't tackle. Officials have stated that Mr. Howells cannot give the council any evidence to persuade them to grant him access to the property. In their words, "His suggestions represent considerable environmental risks that we can tolerate but cannot examine under our permission."
