The Federal Government has stated that its efforts to overcome the obstacles that Nigerians have in getting passports are generating the intended results, and it is pleased with the progress that has been made. Additionally, the government requested that citizens assist in the process of reforming the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) by refraining from patronising corrupt officials who are making the process difficult for them.

According to a statement that was released on Wednesday by Sola Fasure, an adviser to the Minister of the Interior, Rauf Aregbesola made this comment at the commissioning of the Front Desk Office in Oyo, which is located in the state of Oyo.
Aregbesola stated that the Oyo Passport Front Office is a part of the long-term initiatives to make the process of data capturing, production, and collection, which are critical areas of the passport process, easier.

This is being done to address the growing concerns of Nigerians. Aregbesola stated that the Oyo Passport Front Office is a part of the long-term initiatives.

The Minister stated that the NIS has maintained the highest level and quality despite the increasing demand for the citizenship certificate. Over the past three years, passport applications from Nigerians have increased dramatically. Nigeria's population is on the rise. This indicates that during the previous 30 years, the world has seen more births than deaths.

More people are now of passport age, meaning they require one for international travel, identification, and other reasons. As a result, demand has skyrocketed beyond our capabilities in terms of manufacturing. Fortunately, we were able to overcome the obstacle and pay off the back payments. Six weeks after enrolling in biometric data, we now have a production schedule for new applications and three weeks for renewals.

However, the time it takes to submit an application and collect biometric information remains a problem. In rare cases, the waiting period might be as long as two months. The present passport offices are only able to process a certain number of people each day, therefore there is always a significant backlog of people who need to be seen. To enrol, candidates will need to submit their biometric information at the front desk. Here, there will be no passing of judgement.

The applications, however, will be filled out and compiled in preparation for processing and manufacturing. It is also the place where the applicant will go to pick up their passport once it is ready. "Despite the challenges we faced, last year (2022) alone, we produced 1.9 million passports, against the 1 million produced in 2021.

This is an astounding growth of almost 80%. Automated Passport issuance, the elimination of touts and racketeers in Passport administration, the implementation of E-border Management, MIDAS, and the rollout of E-Passport throughout Passport Control Offices and Diplomatic Missions are all results of the changes made to the NIS.
