arrested Among those killed during a gun battle with the police were one Jude, said to be providing information to the hoodlums on the movement of men of SARS in his Awkuzu community.

In the gun battle that ensued at Onitsha and Eziowelle in Idemili North Local Government Area between the suspects and men of the state police command, two of the suspects escaped and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, said his men had been combing the state to fish them out.

Eighteen other suspects, including a 300-Level computer science student of Odumegwu Ojukwu University, were paraded over alleged involve-ment in various offences.

Their offences ranged from robbery, rape, false information, diversion of goods to murder.

The student was said to have shot one Ezike Amarachi and collected his telephones and other materials and was regarded as a terror in the state.

Fake naira notes, amounting to over N200,000, two AK-47 rifles, four AK magazines, 117 rounds of ammunition, 30 live cartridges and a pump action gun were recovered from the suspects.

Karma, speaking during the parade, said since the hoodlums had refused to adhere to the advice to leave the state, the police would continue to make their lives miserable.

According to the police commissioner, all the kidnap suspects had been on the wanted list of the police for the past two year.

He said: “The Police Command is ever ready for these people and there is no hiding place for them.”

He commended the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for the assistance so far given to the police in combating crime, assuring that the command would not fail him.
