ENUGU Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),   Mr. David Mendie has advised commercial motorists especially tanker drivers to hurry up by ensuring that they install the necessary speed limiters in their vehicles before   the  1st of September nationwide deadline or risk being arrested as the command was not ready to spare any offender.

He also warned that any vehicle driver or tricycle rider found driving without valid and genuine driver’s licence in Enugu State would be charged to court for murder   in the event of any accident leading to loss of life.

The FRSC boss told reporters that “the introduction of speed limiters in the country was to reduce the number of accidents on the roads to the barest minimum. The speed limiter is a mechanical device that regulates or gives the maximum speed of a vehicle and stored to prevent drivers from going beyond the pre-set limit.

“Therefore, speed limit is the maximum legal speed a driver can travel or drive on the road under an ideal condition and motorists including tanker drivers have been sensitized on the use of speed limiter so as to help them avoid road crash. From September, those who fail to comply or obey the instruction of the installation of the speed limiters would be convicted”, he warned.

Also while addressing the newly inaugurated executive members of the Association of Tricycle Riders of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office yesterday, the Sector Commander frowned at the attitude of some people driving without driver’s licence, insisting  that it was illegal for anybody to embark on driving without a genuine driver’s license, saying that his command would no longer tamper justice with mercy as anybody that violates the law would be arrested and drivers without licence who kill  will be charged with murder.
