Abia State Police Command’s Anti-Robbery Squad’s operatives have arrested a 27-year-old man identified as Mr. Tochukwu Nna with a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, weighing 50kg.
Vanguard gathered that Nna, who hails from Isiala Mbano council area of Imo State, was arrested at Umuobiakwa community in Obingwa council area, Abia State, while trying to deliver the substance to a yet-to-be-identified courier.
A source at the Aba Area Command told Vanguard that police got information ahead of time that the substance was being ferried from Benin, Edo State, to Aba and the Aba Area Commander, ACP Peter Wagbara, instructed his men to swing into action.
Luck ran out on the suspect when the tricycle conveying the contraband goods broke down at Umuobiakwa community, causing him to drop the Indian hemp in a nearby bush.
Vanguard learned that it was while the suspect and the tricycle driver were trying to repair their Keke to continue with their journey that men of the anti-robbery stormed the area.
The Keke rider ran away, but the suspect was apprehended.
