By 2023, MTN Nigeria Communication Plc expects to provide smartphones to 365,000 Nigerians. The telecommunications company plans to do this through its relationship with Intelligra for device financing. Thanks to this cooperation, people will have the chance to purchase smartphones with the "buy now, pay later" option.
Only 44% of Nigerians, according to the Alliance for Affordable Internet, have access to smartphones. Smartphones provide users with a doorway into the digital world, but many Nigerians cannot afford them due to their exorbitant cost.
During the launch ceremony, Adia Sowho, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, noted that many Nigerians now use their smartphones as computers.
"Unfortunately, many people cannot afford these products due to their hefty price tags. Currency fluctuations, shortages of chipsets, and inflation keep the price of phones rising.
She said that while MTN and Intelligra had been collaborating for some time, their collaboration only became official in January 2022. Since then, it has developed into 200 locations where customers can walk in and purchase Smartphones with no initial deposit and pay for them over time using airtime.
She said, "We have funded over 20,000 smartphones via this campaign. With the introduction of 5G, MTN is strengthening its alliance with Intelligra to promote the growth of 5G mobile devices.
By 2023, we hope to have 1,000 devices used daily, even as we add more outlets, particularly in the North. According to Sowho, the agreement will allow users to sign up for any MTN bundle plan for as little as N7,000/month, walk away with their chosen smartphone, and pay within six to twelve months.
Additionally, they may choose bundle plans that include up to 250 voice minutes per month, 100 GB of monthly internet, and a once-off free screen replacement in case of a broken screen.More posts to read
