JAMB extends UTME registration amid naira scarcity
Posted on: February 18, 2023, 06:51:22 PM
We are pleased to inform you that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has extended the registration deadline for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

The board announced the extension of the exercise by one week in a statement released by Dr Fabian Benjamin, its Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, on Wednesday. The original end date for the exercise was Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Benjami said the last day to register for the UTME and purchase an ePIN would be February 20, 2023. The statement explained the choice by citing the current naira problem.

In light of its forecasts, the board has increased its ability to register up to 100,000 applicants every day, according to the announcement. All interested parties may be registered in only a few days thanks to this.

Nonetheless, registration turnout was lower than expected, with fewer than 50,000 potential voters showing up. Interestingly, the rate of registration increased dramatically in the final two days prior to the deadline, with over a hundred thousand new applicants signing up every day.

Also, the board, as a responsive and proactive organization, took note of complaints from all over the nation, suggesting certain challenges being experienced by many Nigerians in utilizing their electronic channels to acquire the ePINs or access cash conveniently within the given period.

Because of the "existing problems that are not of the candidate's own creation," "it has, as a result, granted this extension to guarantee that all candidates who register for the 2023 UTME are given a chance to do so."
