First Turn off the iPhone by holding both the power button and the home button until the screen goes blank.
Before the phone restarts hold again both the power and home buttons for exactly 10 seconds.

After 10 seconds remove your finger from the power button but continue holding the home button for a further 20 seconds and your phone will still have a blank screen but it should be recognized in iTunes as a device in recovery mode.

You should now be able to restore your device with iTunes. You may need to try the above method with the power and home button a few times to get it right but it will eventually work, make sure you followed the steps exactly as instructed especially the timing so that it can work for you.
